Add a watermark to a PDF
A watermark says what a document is before anybody reads a word of it: a draft that should not be quoted, a copy that belongs to one recipient, a file that is not for circulation. Type your text, choose how it sits on the page, and the words are drawn across every page here in your browser. The file is never uploaded, which matters most for exactly the documents people watermark — contracts, valuations, anything marked confidential. Three placements are offered: across the page corner to corner, straight across the middle, or repeated over the whole page, which is the one that survives somebody cropping the edges off. The strength setting decides how strongly the text shows through, so the document underneath stays readable. You can watermark the whole file or name the pages you want stamped, and nothing is re-encoded, so the text and images you already had are untouched.

Frequently asked questions
- Is my file uploaded to a server?
- No. The watermark is drawn in your browser, so the document never leaves your device.
- Can I watermark only some of the pages?
- Yes. Leave the pages field empty to stamp every page, or enter pages like 2 or 4-9 to stamp only those.
- Will the watermark cover the text underneath?
- It is drawn over the content but partly transparent, and the strength setting controls how much shows. Light leaves the page easy to read; strong makes the mark hard to ignore.
- Can somebody remove the watermark?
- It is part of the page once it is drawn, so it cannot be toggled off in a reader. Anyone determined enough can edit a PDF, which is why the repeated placement exists: it leaves nothing to crop to.
- Which characters can I use?
- Western European letters, numbers and punctuation. Turkish, Greek, Cyrillic and Asian scripts need a font we do not yet include, and the tool says so rather than printing the wrong characters.
- Can I use an image or a logo as the watermark?
- Not yet. This tool stamps text. A logo watermark needs the image embedded on every page and is not built.
